Bee talks and live-bee demonstrations
For community groups, clubs, organisations and events: a beekeeper's talk about honeybees, the equipment that keeps beekeepers and bees safe, and, in season, real bees.
When
A seasonal activity
Talks and demonstrations with live bees are generally offered from May to the end of September, when colonies are strong and active.
Outside those months you are still welcome to get in touch. We can talk about an equipment-based talk, or plan a date for the next season.
Dates depend on the bees, the weather and our diary, so nothing is confirmed until we have agreed it with you.
What is included
What a session can include
- A talk about honeybees, the colony and the beekeeper's year.
- Beekeeping equipment to see and handle: hive parts, frames, suits, veils, gloves and smoker.
- In season, a demonstration with live bees, with the safety arrangements agreed with you beforehand.
- Time for questions, from complete beginners to people thinking about keeping bees.
Who it suits
Community groups, clubs, youth organisations, workplaces and local events. For schools, see school visits.
Duration and venue
We agree the length of the session and what the venue needs with you when you enquire, depending on the group and whether live bees are involved.
Safety
Safety arrangements, including where any bees will be and who can come close, are discussed and agreed with the organiser before a booking is confirmed.
Community sessions
Sessions for the community
We set aside time each year for community groups and education across South Wales, much of it at our apiary at Greenmeadow Community Farm in Cwmbran. If you run a group that would like to learn about bees, tell us about it below.
Request a bee talk or demonstration
Tell us about your group and we will reply by email. Sending this form does not book a date.
