Candle-making workshops
Make a beeswax candle, learn where the wax comes from
An optional, hands-on workshop that follows a standard school visit, so children see how bees make wax and then work with it themselves.
Timing and price
The price
£1.50 per child
Candle-making is the one part of a school visit we charge for. We keep the price at £1.50 a child because Tŷ Mêl subsidises the workshop for the benefit of the community, so hands-on learning stays within reach of every school.
The standard 45-minute visit on its own remains free for schools in the Gwent area. Nothing is charged online: we confirm the number of children and how to pay when we confirm your booking.
Funded and supported sessions
If the cost of candle-making is a barrier for your school or group, please tell us when you enquire. Sponsorship from local people and businesses helps fund equipment and sessions, and it may be possible to support some groups this way.
