Terms and safety information

The main things to know before you book, sponsor or buy from Tŷ Mêl.

Last updated October 2026. If anything here is unclear, email markus@tymel.co.uk.

Sponsorship

  • Tŷ Mêl Apiary is the trading name of CalonTerra Ltd, a private commercial business, not a registered charity. Sponsorships are commercial sponsorships, not donations, and are not eligible for Gift Aid or charitable tax relief.
  • One-off equipment sponsorships pay for the named item. Monthly sponsorships support the ongoing running of the apiary and education work.
  • Sponsoring an item does not buy a set number of school sessions or a particular outcome.
  • Monthly sponsorships are Stripe subscriptions billed every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time using the link on your Stripe receipt, or by emailing us.
  • Recognition for sponsors is described on the sponsorship page.
  • Payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

School visits, workshops and bee talks

  • Bookings made through the school calendar are provisional until we confirm them by email.
  • The standard school visit is free for schools in the Gwent area. The candle-making workshop is £1.50 per child, and we confirm how to pay when we confirm the booking.
  • Live-bee activities depend on the season, the weather and the welfare of the colony, and may be changed to an equipment-based session if needed.
  • Visits to Greenmeadow Community Farm are subject to the farm's own admission and ticketing, which we do not control.
  • Trying on a beekeeping suit does not involve handling live bees, and we cannot promise every size at every session.

Queen bees

Queen reservations have their own terms, dispatch dates and live arrival guarantee, set out on the queen bee page.

Products

Our candles, honey, beeswax and wraps are not on sale yet. Their prices, specifications, delivery and returns terms will be shown before you can buy. See delivery and returns.

Candle safety

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended, and put it out before you leave the room or go to sleep.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets, and away from draughts, curtains and anything that can catch fire.
  • Always stand a candle upright in a stable, heat-resistant holder on a level surface.
  • Keep the wick trimmed, and do not move a candle while it is lit or while the wax is still liquid.

Honey

Honey should not be given to babies under 12 months old.

Swarms

If you find a swarm, keep people and pets back and do not try to move or spray it. Call us on 07446 189746.
